The Atlantic Mackerel is a pelagic schooling species of Mackerel found on both sides of the North Atlantic Ocean. The Atlantic Mackerel is by far the most common species of the family caught in the North Atlantic waters.

Abundant in cold and temperate shelf areas, the Mackerel forms in large quantities near the surface. It winters in deeper waters, but moves closer to shore during the spring.

Atlantic Herring is a Herring in the Clupeidae family. It is one of the most abundant fish species in the world. Atlantic Herring can be found on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, congregating in large volumes.

The Blue Whiting is one of two species in the cod family. It is common in the northeast Atlantic Ocean from Morocco to Iceland and Spitsbergen. Blue whiting also occurs in the northwest Atlantic Ocean between Canada and Greenland but is considered rare. It has a long, narrow body and a silvery underbody.

The Great Silver Smelt is somewhat herring-like in appearance. It is a streamlined fish with silvery coloration and large scales. It has huge eyes, covering almost half of its head. The Great Silver Smelt is a bentho-pelagic fish, appearing both close to the bottom and in the water column. It can be found in the North Atlantic Ocean in large volumes.
